Favorite Jo's Memory: The freedom and ability to injest ridiculous amounts of caffeine (as if we needed more drugs) smoke your brains out, unjudged, mostly unmolested (Dope!) and never once were we driven out in the cold because we were youngsters, n'er-do-wells and basically, neo-beatniks. Freedom was what Jo's represented; always people to sit and chat the evening away with- nearly everyone who'se on this site so far was a regular - meaning a packed house nearly every night it was open. That's a special place, something GFW probably won't ever recapture fully. Years ago, the place of teenage lore was Harv's on Grenfell Heights. For us, 'twas Jo's. It defined us, and obviously bound us, look how many strong we are - all with memories of growing up with nothing much to do but sit in a coffehouse and philosophize...poor us. The emo's should have it so good as we did! The group, the Gander, Botwood, Burlington, Bishop's and Lewisporte contingents; where we first drove with our first cars, where we first had to restrain ourselves from appearing drunk and disorderly in public, where we penned our first poems, contemplated our first thoughts on life, music, art, where we drew, listened to Eric Clapton unplugged album over and over...it was a safe home. That's why I loved it there.
